Windows 10 build 14383 is out but not all Insiders have been able to download it and install it. It appears that many Insiders encountered the 0x80246007  error code when trying to download the latest Windows 10 build.

How to fix  Error 0x80246007 on Windows 10?

Error 0x80246007 can be problematic and prevent you from installing Windows updates. Speaking of this error, users reported the following issues:

• Some updates didn’t finish downloading. we’ll keep trying. error code: (0x80246007) – This is a common problem that can occur on your PC. If you encounter this error, you should be able to fix it using one of our solutions.
• 0x80246007 Windows Store – Sometimes this error can appear while trying to download apps from Windows Store. This is usually caused by the Firewall service, so be sure that the Firewall service is running properly.
• 0x80246007 Windows 7 – This error isn’t affecting only Windows 10, and it can appear on older versions of Windows. Even if our solutions are intended for Windows 10, most of them can be applied to older versions of Windows as well.

Solution 1 – Check your antivirus

1. Launch Notepad.

2. Copy one of the following codes in the Notepad file:

1. Go to File > Save As.
2. Enter Repair.bat as the file name. In the Save as type box, click All Files (*.*) and save the file on your desktop.
3. Right-click the Repair.bat file and select Run as administrator. Type the administrator password if required, or click Continue.
4. Try to install the build again. When the build has been installed, delete the Repair.bat file.

For the time being, Microsoft’s Support Team hasn’t issued any comments on this issue. We hope the two workarounds we found work for you.

Solution 4 – Make sure that Windows Defender Firewall service is running

If you can’t install Windows 10 builds due to error 0x80246007, the problem might be your Windows Firewall service.

Windows Update requires Windows Defender Firewall service, and if this service is disabled, you might experience this and many other problems.

To check if the Windows Defender Firewall service is running, do the following:

1. Open the Services window.
2. Now you should see a list of all available services. Locate Windows Defender Firewall on the list.
3. Check the status of Windows Defender Firewall service. If the service isn’t running, right click it and choose Start from the menu.

After starting the Windows Defender Firewall service, check if the problem is resolved.

Solution 5 – Change User Account Control settings

According to users, you might be able to fix this problem simply by changing your user control settings. If you’re not familiar, User Account Control is a useful feature that prevents applications and users from running certain tasks that require administrative privileges.

While this feature is quite useful, sometimes it can interfere with your work and that can cause error 0x80246007 to appear. However, you can fix the issue simply by disabling User Account Control. To do that, just follow these steps:

1. Press Windows Key + S and enter user account control. Choose Change User Account Control settings.
2. Move the slider all the way down to Never notify. Now click on OK to save changes.

After doing that, User Account Control should be disabled and the problem will be resolved.

Solution 6 – Run Windows Update troubleshooter

If you’re getting error 0x80246007 on your PC, you might be able to fix the problem by using the troubleshooter. Windows 10 comes with several troubleshooters, and you can use these applications to automatically fix many common Windows problems. To run Windows Update troubleshooter, do the following:

1. Press Windows Key + S and enter troubleshoot. Choose Troubleshoot from the menu.
2. Select Windows Update from the menu on the left and click Run the troubleshooter.

Solution 7 – Perform a Clean boot

Third-party applications can interfere with your system and cause many errors to appear. If you’re having error 0x80246007 on your PC, you might be able to fix it simply by finding and removing the application that causes it.

There are several ways to do that, but the best one is to perform a Clean boot. This is relatively simple and you can do that by following these steps:

1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog. Now enter msconfig and press Enter or click OK to proceed.
2. Navigate to the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services. Now click Disable all button.
3. Go to Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
4. List of startup applications will now appear. Right click the first entry on the list and choose Disable from the menu. Repeat this step for all startup applications.
5. After doing that, close Task Manager and go back to System Configuration window. Click Apply and OK to save changes and restart your PC.

Once your PC restarts, check if the problem still persists. If not, it means that one of your startup applications was causing the issue. Now you can enable the disabled applications and services by using the same method as above.

If the error appears again, you might have to disable all your services and startup applications one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem. Once you find it, disable it or remove it, and the issue will be permanently resolved.

It’s worth mentioning that many applications will leave certain files and registry entries even after you uninstall them. This can be a problem and cause the issue to reappear, so it’s recommended to use uninstaller software to remove problematic applications.

Solution 8 – Perform a System Restore

If you’re getting error 0x80246007, you might be able to fix it by using System Restore. This is quite simple and you can do it by following these steps:

3. Now click Next.

How to fix Error 0x80246007 when downloading Windows 10 builds?

The great thing about being a member of the Microsoft Insider Program is the freedom to access new features even before they hit the market.

Lucky members of this program are now enjoying Windows 10 build 14383 while the general public only gets a glimpse of it in online reviews and blog posts. However, not all of the Insiders have been able to successfully download and install it.

While trying to download the new Windows build, many of them encountered the 0x80246007 error code.

What is error code 0x80246007?

Before we learn how to fix Windows update error code 0x80246007, it is best to get a better understanding of what the problem is and why it shows up.

Many of the Insider members reported that they had been scanning for new Windows updates when error 0x80246007 occurred.

As of this writing, Microsoft has not yet released an official statement regarding what caused the issue. However, it is possible that the error 0x80246007 is a result of any of the following:

• The Windows Update database has been corrupted.
• A Windows process is disrupting the Windows Update component.

Thankfully, there are a number of methods you can try to rectify this problem. If you want to learn

Method 1: Checking your anti-virus program

If the error 0x80246007 shows up while you’re downloading the latest Windows 10 build, it is possible that your anti-virus has something to do with it.

It is true that anti-virus programs are necessary these days. However, some of them are not absolutely compatible with certain updates from Windows 10.

Consequently, many other problems start to appear.

A lot of Insider members reported that the error was caused by McAfee. What they did was to disable this third-party anti-virus’ firewall and they were able to fix the problem.

Method 3: Creating a Repair.bat file

1. Open Notepad and paste any of the command groups below:

1. Go to File, then click Save As.
2. Type “Repair.bat” (no quotes) as the file name. Don’t forget to click the Save As Type drop-down list and choose All Files. Save the file on your desktop.
3. Go to your desktop and right-click the Repair.bat file you’ve just made.
4. Choose Run as Administrator.
5. Try installing the Windows 10 build. Once you’ve successfully installed it, remember to delete the Repair.bat file.

Method 4: Checking Windows Defender Firewall service

If you’re having trouble installing Windows 10 builds because of the error 0x80246007, you might want to check if your Windows Defender Firewall service is running.

It is worth noting that Windows Update requires this service. So, if it is disabled, the error 0x80246007 and many other issues might show up.

You can check if the Windows Defender Firewall service is running by following these instructions:

1. Click the Search icon on the taskbar.
2. Type “services” (no quotes), then hit Enter.

While many Windows users find this feature handy, some Insider members have reported that it can also cause the error 0x80246007. So, one of the workarounds for the problem is disabling User Account Control. You can do that by following these steps:

1. On your keyboard, press Windows Key+S.
2. Type “user account control” (no quotes), then hit Enter.
3. Once the window is open, you will see a slider. Move it all the way down to Never Notify.
4. Save the changes by clicking OK.

Method 6: Using the troubleshooter for Windows Update

You can also try removing the error 0x80246007 by running the troubleshooter. One of the great things about Windows 10 is it comes with various troubleshooters that can automatically fix common problems on your PC. That said, follow the instructions below:

1. Go to your taskbar and click the Search icon.
2. Type “troubleshoot” (no quotes), then hit Enter.
3. Click Windows Update on the right pane.
4. Click Run the Troubleshooter.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to start fixing the error 0x80246007.

Method 7: Performing a clean boot

It is also possible for third-party applications to interfere with your system, causing various issues to appear, including the error 0x80246007.

In this case, you have to identify and remove the particular program associated with the issue. You can choose from a range of methods, but the ideal one is to perform a clean boot.

This is relatively easy to do. You just have to follow the steps below:

1. Open the Run dialog by clicking Windows Key+R on your keyboard.
2. Type “msconfig” (no quotes), then hit Enter.
3. Go to the Services tab.
4. At the bottom of the window, you will see Hide All Microsoft Services. Make sure it is selected.
5. Click the Disable All button.
6. Navigate to the Startup tab, then click Open Task Manager.
7. You will now see a list of startup applications. Go to the first entry on the list and right-click it.
8. Select Disable from the menu. Repeat this process for all applications.
9. Exit Task Manager and go back to the System Configuration window.
10. Save the changes by clicking Apply and OK. Restart your computer.

Check if the error 0x80246007 is gone. If it is, then it means that one of the startup applications was what caused the issue. You can now enable the services and applications by using the same steps above.

On the other hand, if the error reappears, you might have to identify the particular application that is causing the problem. Make sure you disable and remove the application to permanently resolve the issue.
